We have put together some suggestions for fundraising
and awareness that you might like to try.
Could you run a stall at a local school
of church fair?
We can provide you with literature to give away and high quality goods
to sell on a sale or return basis. Why not write to your local primary
and secondary schools or churches to find out about fetes and craft
fairs - usually held in the summer and before Christmas. The cost of
a stall is usually between £5 and £10 - we will gladly refund
you.
TIP: Some schools/churches allow you to sell bric-a-brac, hold a
Tombola or Lucky Dip - this kind of stall costs THRT nothing if you
ask friends and family to donate unwanted gifts or bric-a-brac.
Persuade your local library to put up
one of our Library Displays?
We have a colourful and informative Library Display available.
It contains details of all current research programmes, our aims and
philosophy. These displays are an excellent way of publicising our work
and encouraging new supporters. We can tailor the 'display' to fit your
library's display boards.
TIP: Make sure the librarian knows that the display doesn't contain
any distressing images and that we are totally non-confrontational.
Providing them with a few leaflets initially will help. We can send
you a sample of the display if necessary.
Could you hold a Street Collection in
a local town?
Street collections are a great way of raising money and awareness. Ask
us to organise a collection for you, or write to your local council's
'licensing department' to request an application form. The form is simple
to fill in and we can provide you with any Trust details the Council
might need. Once you have a date, we will provide you with collection
tins and lapel stickers, and if possible, some other THRT supports from
your area to help. After the collection, you will just need to send
the 'return form' to us (the council will send this to you with your
permit and we will do the rest).
TIP: Display some of our eye catching posters so that possible donors
can see what we do at a glance.
House to House Collections
You can hold a House to House collection in your own street, village
or town. Ask us to organise a collection for you, or contact your local
council as above, and fill in a simple application form. When you receive
your permit, you will send a section for The HM Stationery Office who
will send official permission for you to hold your collection. We will
provide you with plenty of envelopes and leaflets. Once again, you will
need to fill in a return form after the collection - we will be glad
to do this for you.
Plan a sponsored event
Can you swim, walk a dog, read or sit in silence??? ... literally anything
you can do can make money for us! We can provide you with encouragement,
personalised sponsor forms and plenty of literature to give out.
Can you speak to groups or school children?
If you have some experience of public speaking, you could talk
to an interested group about our work. We can provide you with handouts
suitable for your 'audience' - whatever their age, and guidelines for
your talk.
Collect unwanted gifts and bric-a-brac
Many of our existing groups sell bric-a-brac to make money
for us. If you aren't able to hold a stall or car boot yourself, why
not collect bric-a-brac for your nearest local group.
TIP: Before you start to collect bric-a-brac for a local group,
contact HQ, just to make sure that they are one of the groups who do
this to raise money.
Coffee Mornings, Cheese & Wine Lunches
or Soup Suppers... the choice is yours
If you enjoy entertaining, why not invite some friends around,
and raise some money at the same time - tell them about us, and politely
ask for donations! We can provide you with posters to put up, literature
to give away and attractive goods to sell.
Can you knit, sew, draw or paint?
Hold a stall at a local craft fair, selling your own hand-made
gifts or cards...
Write letters to your local papers
Inform the public by sending details of our constructive work
to your local papers.
Whatever you think you can do to help us, on whatever
scale, we will give you all the support you need. All of our funds come
from entirely voluntary donations so we rely heavily on our volunteers
to make our work possible. Without your help, we cannot fund research
into human illnesses such as cancer, cataract and Alzheimer's disease...
and animals will continue to be used in the laboratory. Please help.
